Here is a battery grip for the Nikon D5000. It is manufactured by a Chinese company named Travor. It connects to the camera via a tripod mount screw. You take off the battery door on the camera and push the battery connector inside the camera.
Since the Nikon D5000 does not come with an official battery grip there is a workaround. This comes in the form of a cable that connects from the grip to the remote shutter port on the side of the camera.
